The San Jose Sharks have had a season that many would like to forget, as they sit dead last in the standings of the entire National Hockey League. But if you needed any more proof that the team is in desperate need of the season to be over so that they can continue to retool for a rebuild, you don't have to look very far, as an incident involving Center Klim Kostin sums up the entire season in literally one instance.
During the Sharks game against the National Predators, it appears that the twenty-four-year-old from Penza, Russia, receives a skate to the groin as it doubles over shortly after the contact; however, a different angle showed that the skate possibly got the back of his thigh.
There has been no indication from the Sharks as to whether the incident caused serious injury, and Kostin finished the game (an 8-2 loss) with an assist and a -2; however, he appears to be the only bright spot with the Sharks at the moment as he has contributed five points in the six games he has played since being acquired from the Detroit Red Wings.
It would appear that if Kostin pencils in to the Sharks' long-term plans with the franchise, at first glance, within the scope of a remarkably small sample size, the Sharks at least have a young, driven forward willing to compete and contribute consistently.
