Sharks sign 2024 first overall pick Macklin Celebrini to ELC
The Macklin Celebrini era in Northern California is officially set to get underway this fall with some big news announced on Saturday afternoon.
On social media, the San Jose Sharks announced that they've signed Macklin Celebrini, the 2024 first overall pick, to his three-year entry-level contract beginning next season. Financial details of Celebrini's contract were not released.
"Sharks fans, we (officially) got him 🔏" The Sharks said.
"OFFICIAL: #SJSharks sign Macklin Celebrini to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The 18-year old was the 1st overall pick in last week's 2024 #NHLDraft, had 64 pts in 38 GP in his freshman season for Boston University (NCAA)."
Celebrini, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, had a strong year with Boston University last season, becoming the youngest player in NCAA history to win the Hobey Baker Award. In 38 games, Celebrini put up 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists), 18 penalty minutes and was a plus-25.
It was a bit uncertain if Macklin Celebrini would begin his professional career with the San Jose Sharks this fall or if he'd return for a second year with Boston University in the NCAA, but this is great news for hockey fans in Northern California. With a strong prospect pool and some nice veteran pieces surrounding them, the Sharks are ready to take the next step in their rebuild.
