The Seattle Kraken have been without a captain since the departure of Mark Giordano, but now they've named their second ever captain.

After a disappointing 2023/24 campaign where the Kraken would miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time in their three years, the team is full of optimism ahead of the new season. With just moments before their season began, the team made a very surprising but long awaited announcement on social media.

After being without a captain for the past few years since Mark Giordano was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team have now officially named Jordan Eberle as the second captain in franchise history. This is the second major move the team has made this off-season after they parted ways with former coach Dave Hakstol, and with the additions of Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour, confidence is high heading into the 2024/25 season.

As for Eberle, he has been with the Kraken since the day the franchise made their originally expansion draft picks, missing just 7 games for the team over the past three seasons while going over 44 points in each of those years. Now, given his experience, he is the best option for the Kraken's next captain role, with the team relying on the likes of Jared McCann, Eberle and Yanni Gourde for their leadership a year ago.

With the team eyeing a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this is the move they needed to make to solidify their leadership group, and even though he was involved in trade rumours a year ago, he's now solidified as the leader of this team for the near future.
