Insider reveals major update on Auston Matthews contract negotiations

The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a lot of changes around their front office. This has called in to question whether or not superstar Auston Matthews is still willing to sign long term. Thankfully we now have an update.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Matthews will sign an extension in Toronto in large part because of how Brad Treliving handled his initial meeting; take a look.

you know, Brad Treliving did go to Arizona last week, I have been convinced he's signing, now I'm even more convinced he's signing. Like I don't know how much they talked contract, but the one thing I remember is, when was the last time that Brad Treliving had dinner with someone? - yes it was Jonathan Huberdeau in Montreal. So three days after, he signed the extension with Calgary, The 8-year, 84 million dollar extension. It's already been longer than 3 days since Treliving met with Matthews, so we're not going to beat that, but I still am convinced that Auston Matthews is going to sign in Toronto

Matthews, 25, skated in 74 games with the Maple Leafs last season putting up a total of 85 points including 40 goals and 45 assists in what was largely considered a down year.

While the hockey world won't stop talking about him until he signs on, or after July 1st. I think for now, this is a good sign if you're a Leafs fan
