Many people will share with you that the Toronto Maple Leafs may have either regressed or stood pat in regards to their lineup and will suffer because of it, but one former NHL coach believes they had the best offseason out of any of the thirty-two teams in the NHL.
While sitting in with Tony Luftman on the NHL Tonight Boudreau raved that the acquisitions they made, especially on their back end will give them a legitimate opportunity to get past the first round during this season's playoffs. Boudreau also shared how he believes new head coach Craig Berube is the perfect fit for the Maple Leafs. Boudreau suggests that he coaches the way he played which was hard-nosed and tough and responsible defensively.
Arguably having Brad Treliving and Craig Berube together along with the new additions could alter the way the Maple Leafs play moving forward. The teams of the past lacked any considerable & consistent toughness and haven't had a shutdown defenceman in their lineup for a considerable amount of time. These things amongst a host of others are recipes for success and could help the team make it through the first round of the playoffs and beyond.
The Toronto Maple Leafs may surprise everyone and play their best hockey in years through the regular season and carry it forward through the Stanley Cup playoffs. Or they could fizzle out early during the season, barely make the playoffs and have the same result they have had in all but one season over the last almost decade. Unfortunately for naysayers and fortunately for diehards, nobody knows what will happen until the puck drops in the 2024-2025 season. Until then, we wait.
