Cam Allen was a former fifth-round pick of the Washington Capitals, but now the London Knights star is in trouble after his involvement in a drunken car crash.
When being picked late in the draft, many things need to go right for a player to make it to the NHL level, but it takes so littel effort for one to ruin their potential NHL career.
That is potentially what has now happened to former fifth-round pick Cam Allen, who was arrested by the London police after his involvement in a drunken car crash at 3am, with the police releasing this statement on social media:
As a result of the investigation, Cameron Allen, 20, of London, is charged with the following offences:
Impaired operation of a conveyance;
Impaired operation exceed blood alcohol concentration;
Fail to remain;
Fail to report accident; and,
Novice driver- blood alcohol concentration above zero.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in London court on March 6, 2025, in relation to the charges.
Not only did the 20-year old defenseman play a major role in the crash while under the influence of alcohol, but he also failed to report it, and now will appear in London court next month.
Unsurprisingly, Allen was met with plenty of backlash on social media for the reckless decision that not only put him but others in danger as well, and given what the NHL community went through over the summer, it was an incredibly irresponsible decision to make.
The 20-year old blue liner has 4 goals and 17 points in 18 games played this season, with a promising future in hockey ahead of him, but after this decision was made, it's highly unlikely that we'll see him in the Capitals system for long, with the team potentially ready to move on from him depending on the outcome of his criminal trial.
