The intensity and competition during this year's Toronto Maple Leafs training camp is expected to be ramped up a few notches with new head coach Craig Berube eager to put his stamp on the team. Things got a little out of hand during a drill between Max Domi and Simon Benoit.
During the one-ice session of Group B, Domi and Benoit got tangled up and ended up in a wrestling match. It was quickly resolved with no ill will feelings between either player. Benoit joked that he was trying to show Max his new dad-strength.
Benoit missed day one of training camp for the birth of his little girl with name TBD. Domi gave Benoit stick taps as he led the stretches to end the on-ice session.
Benoit and Domi are very competitive players and the intensity they bring when engaged is a big reason why they have success at the NHL level. New bench boss Craig Berube has an intense style that should mesh well with both Benoit and Domi.
The Maple Leafs kicked off their preseason schedule with a 6-5 overtime loss against the Ottawa Senators. It was concerned a disappointing display for the Maple Leafs who iced what looked to be very close to their regular season roster, while the Senators iced an AHL squad.
