New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil was ready for a new chapter in his career this season after an injury riddled campaign that cost him 72 games last season. Unfortunately for Chytil the hockey gods had other plans for him.

The New York Rangers are playing their second game of their preseason schedule tonight against their division rivals, the New York Islanders. During the first period, Chytil was skating in the middle of the ice with the puck when Islanders defenceman Scott Mayfield stepped up on him to challenge. It ended up being an awkward collision with Mayfield appearing to make contact with Chytil's knee.

Chytil had to be helped off the ice and was not able to put any weight on his left leg.

It is tough luck for Chytil and the Rangers. When healthy he provides New York solid depth in the third line center position. During the 2022-23 season he scored 22 goals and 45 points 74 games. Chytil provided the Rangers six assists in ten regular season games last season. He went scoreless in six playoff games but admitley wasn't at his best during the Rangers latest run as he was working his way back from his injury.

The 25 year old, struggled with a concussion last season. He faced setbacks that cost him a lot of games last season. Chytil has suspected to have had three or four concussions in his career.

We hope is it just a minor knock for Chytil and he can get back on the ice soon.

Update

Chytil returned to the game after getting the green light from medical staff.
