Former Stanley Cup Champion Mike Commodore berates Patrick Laine during Montreal Canadiens initiation
Former NHL defenceman Mike Commodore is a fan favorite on social media with his entertaining and sometimes outlandish takes. His latest tirade was directed at the newest Montreal Canadiens player Patrick Laine. This time Commodore may have went a little too harsh.
The one-time Stanley Cup champion wasn't criticizing Laine's play on the ice but rather the outfit he decided to wear for his first time in the Canadiens locker room. Laine was wearing black and white spotted pants and lime green shoes.
Commodore didn't hold back on his tirade.
"Folks..I meant to comment on this weeks ago..I am trying to not to sound like an old crusty prickbut in what world is it ok to show up looking like a fucking milking cow for your first look as a Montreal Canadienun vache tabarnak."
The league has certainly changed since Commodore hung up the skates during the 2011-2012 season. Players were a lot more conservative during his playing days, rarely showing off their individuality.
While Laine didn't dress up for his first appearance in a Habs jersey. He is definitely excited to play for the storied franchise.
"I feel like there's no better place to play in terms of a hockey market, so I'm super excited obviously to be here and finally to have these fans be on my side for once," Laine said. "You know it's not fun to come here as a visitor, that's for sure."
I'm just super excited to be here and obviously getting to play at one of the greatest rinks in hockey and in front of probably the best fans in the world. So it should be great."
Laine played his first preseason game with Montreal last night in the team's 5-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Laine was held off the scoresheet but did record five shots, two hits, while skating in 16:48 of ice time.
Montreal acquired Laine from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Aug. 19 in exchange for defenceman Jordan Harris and a second-round pick.
Do you think Commodore's comments were too harsh?
