Superstar Mitch Marner continues to have his name in trade rumours as the summer reaches the midway point. Most of Leafs Nation continue to hold out hope that something will be done to alter the franchise that continues to falter year after year.
The latest report from questionable insider Eklund will have some excited who are in the camp of moving on from the playmaking winger. Eklund has Marner getting traded to the Vegas Golden Knights.
While any Eklund rumor has to be taken with a grain of salt, Vegas is one of the more logical franchises that Marner could leave his hometown team for. No state income tax makes the franchise an attractive option and the team has the pieces that Toronto would be looking for in a trade.
Eklund doesn't elaborate on any of the pieces that may be heading to the hockey mecca of the world in Toronto but a hypothetical one built around Marner for Shea Theodore and Nicolas Roy could possibly work financially and on the depth chart.
Marner would go a long way in replacing some of the offence lost for Vegas when Jonathan Marchessault and Chandler Stephenson left via free agency. General Manager Brad Treliving would get his second minute eating right shot defender that he has been chasing and also receive a center in Roy who can help lighten the load on aging captain John Tavares.
