The Washington Capitals have done quite a bit to turn their team around this off-season after being swept by the New York Rangers in the opening round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs and look poised at making a run towards a top-three spot in the Metropolitan Division next season.
Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan traded for Pierre-Luc Dubois, Andrew Mangiapane, Logan Thompson and Jakob Chychrun, while bringing in Matt Roy and Brandon Duhaime in unrestricted free agency on July 1st.
While meeting with the media recently in Washington, Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin had a request for his team and, jokingly, wanted them to add two of the game's stars - Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton's Connor McDavid.
Ovechkin and Crosby have been battling head-to-head for nearly two decades now and have been one of hockey's biggest rivalries which has featured some incredible series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Having them both on the same team one day would be must-see TV and incredible for hockey as a whole.
With the Capitals likely done adding to their roster this summer, aside from a minor signing or PTO to a veteran, the team will look to have a big start to the 2024-25 season and hope to finish in a playoff position in the Eastern Conference for the second year in a row.
