Toronto Maple Leafs mourn the loss of important figure in the organization

The Toronto Maple Leafs have issued a statement mourning the loss of Greg Harden, a performance coach who has had a profound impact on many athletes

A statement has come from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization mourning the loss of a person who's had a big impact on the team over the past three years, and a man who's name in well known in the North American sporting world. Greg Harden, an influential performance coach who has served as an advisor to many big names, has died.

The University of Michigan, where Harden has been for a long time, told reporters Harden passed away due to complications from surgery. The university would not release his age.

"Harden has spent the better part of five-plus decades as a life coach, motivational speaker, executive consultant, and social worker. Harden had retired from full-time service as Associate Athletic Director and Director of Athletic Counseling for Michigan Athletics (1986-2020) but continued to work with athletes and teams at Michigan to this day."

Greg Harden was also an important figure for the Toronto Maple Leafs, working with the organization for the past three years as a performance coach and advisor. A statement from the team says they are heartbroken to learn of his sudden passing, adding he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his long career at Michigan Athletics and his years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Greg Harden had worked with several well-known athletes such as Tom Brady, Michael Phelps, Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard. Brady posted a tribute to Harden crediting the performance coach for having a major impact on his career, and saying Harden meant the world to him.

Greg Harden was also a New York Times best-selling author with "Stay Sane in an Insane World: How to Control the Controllables and Thrive."
