Earlier this week, it was reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking to add a left winger to the team, given the lack of depth they have at that position. While the free agent market doesn't have a ton in terms of quality left wingers available, it appears that they may have sights on a former captain of one of their rivals.
According to reports, it appears that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the mix to sign former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty, who became a unrestricted free agent back on July 1st.
Further to that report, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period shared on X that if the Maple Leafs do sign Max Pacioretty, it'll be a standard contract for the 2024-25 season and not a professional tryout (PTO).
Pacioretty, 35, appeared in 47 games for the Washington Capitals last season where he registered 23 points (four goals, 19 assists), 25 penalty minutes and was a minus-14. He went on to add one assist in four playoff games.
While Pacioretty is no longer the perennial 30-goal scorer he once was, he can still come into the Maple Leafs' lineup and be a useful piece for their third line and in a pinch, could be used on the second powerplay unit, but that'll be dependent on how he performs.
