Rob Trumbley, an enforcer who was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks, has tragically passed away at the age of 50.

Rob Trumbley was just like so many young men who grew up in Canada.

Born and raised in Regina Saskatchewan, Trumbley always wanted to be a professional hockey player.

Like so many of us, he dreamed of playing in the NHL.

Unfortunately, he never did make it to the show, but he got a heck of a lot closer than most of us ever will.

He was drafted in the 8th round of the 1994 NHL draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

After he wrapped up his junior career with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL he would go on to spend two seasons split between the AHL and ECHL where he eventually came to be a point-per-game player with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

After the 1996-97 season though, he moved overseas joining the Newcastle Cobras in the BISL, the former professional league of the UK.

He would spend the rest of his career in the UK playing for seven clubs over the course of eight years.

Towards the end of his career, he even became captain of the Newcastle Vipers.

News of his passing has spread around the hockey world, leading many of his former clubs, friends, and teammates to leave tributes to him online.

Rob joins a list of tragic passings the hockey world has endured over the past few months.

Just last month we lost a young man to a freak accident in Minnesota, crushing his community.

Rob was 50 years old. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and countless former teammates. Rest in peace Rob.
