Former GM Doug MacLean Reveals Shocking Thatcher Demko News That Adds Fuel To Ongoing Drama
Former GM Doug MacLean was on a recent show where he aired quite the rumor regarding Canucks' Thatcher Demko, which added more fuel to the drama.
At the season the Canucks are having, which is pretty abysmal, the last thing they need is some further drama brewing inside the locker room.
It cannot have escaped many a Vancouver Canucks fan's attention that drama seems to be brewing amongst the forwards, namely J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson.
A report said the Vancouver Canucks, frustrated with the whole ordeal of Miller underperforming and getting less time on the ice, had even considered trading him to the New Jersey Devils.
On a recent episode of 'Kyper and Bourne', former GM Doug MacLean speculated that maybe all the drama is affecting goaltender Thatcher Demko and his motivation to play.
"I'm even hearing Demko doesn't want to really play."
- Doug MacLean
He added that Demko's.762 save percentage and recent performance against the Los Angeles Kings in a 5-1 loss seemed an afterthought. However, if pushed, he reiterated that these were mere rumors and not based on anything concrete.
"I know he's been injured but I mean, I watched last night. I mean three nothing before the game even starts. I mean this guy is the backbone of their team. I mean what's going on with his injury situation?
Where's his head right now with respect to playing? I'll tell you they've got to fix a few things in Vancouver real fast and to let it percolate this long is beyond me- is beyond me."
"Like I'm telling you boys, as Mum used to say- as Fran MacLean, my mother used to say, 'I'm only telling you what I heard, boys, I'm not telling you it's the truth' you know, so make sure you have that caveat.
I hear that he's not that excited to get in the net right now and I'm sure it's not the injury because I know the Canucks would make sure that's 100% before he's getting in there, but he's got to be a motivated goaltender.
He's the backbone of this team as recently as a year or two ago, I mean, so let's hope that he is 100% healthy and he's ready to play and wants to play."
- Doug MacLean
With the March 7th trade deadline bearing down, it's hoped the tension will be further dissipated and both the Canucks and Demko can salvage their season.
While there is no concrete evidence of the locker room issues affecting Demko in terms of his motivation, one thing is for sure, and that is this team cannot seem to get along.
