On SportsCenter with Jay Onrait National Hockey League insider and former player Frank Corrado touched on Boeser (0:30-2:30). Although it's not priority number one at this moment it should get done if only because the rest of the Vancouver Canucks core is locked up indefinitely. However, the Canucks may be playing it smart.
Boeser's numbers have continued to climb since making his debut during the 2016-2017 season and he was one game shy of playing an entire season last campaign where he eclipsed his season's best in points by nearly twenty. If the Canucks can find a way to lock up Boeser, they could look for fringe-type players that every team needs to be successful to fill out the rest of their roster. In some cases, finding these players is more difficult because a certain aspect they can bring to a team isn't necessarily something an all-star or core-type piece offers.
While the Canucks would likely be okay without Boeser in their lineup, it is in. the best interest of everyone, Boeser included for him to put pen to paper sooner rather than later. Although it's not uncommon for a player to use the wait-and-see approach occasionally, if the club and the player feel that the time is right and the numbers work, neither party should hesitate to get a deal done immediately.
