For years now, there have been rumours surrounding goaltender John Gibson and a potential move out of Anaheim, but nothing has materialized on that front just yet despite being linked to a number of teams leading up to the NHL Entry Draft last month.
In a recent mailbag article, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal was asked about the team's goaltending situation and if they could trade for an upgrade during the 2024-25 season.
Webster said that a deal can't be ruled out and that one option for the Golden Knights, but could be difficult given they're a division rival, is Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson.
Vegas heads into the 2024-25 campaign with Adin Hill and Ilya Samsonov as their goaltending tandem, the latter of whom was signed as an unrestricted free agent back on July 1st. The Golden Knights also added Akira Schmid via trade with the New Jersey Devils on the same day they moved Logan Thompson to the Washington Capitals.
The Golden Knights are expected to be in the mix for one of the top-three spots in the Pacific Division, despite losing Logan Thompson, Jonathan Marchessault, Chandler Stephenson and Alec Martinez. They'll be relying on Adin Hill heavily, but expect both Ilya Samsonov and Akira Schmid to also get some game action throughout the year. As Danny Webster mentions, the team hopes their tandem performs well next season, but dealing for a replacement can't be ruled out.
