The Vancouver Canucks are a team in crisis. They are 3-5-2 over their last ten games and have fallen out of a playoff spot.
Things do not seem to be getting any better as both JT Miller and Elias Pettersson remain on the club.
Recently, trade rumors around Pettersson have been heating up.
NHL insider David Pagnotta believes the Ottawa Senators may be one of the teams in on the 26-year-old Swede.
That being said, if the Senators are indeed interested in Pettersson, they will have competition on the trade market.
After all, most teams in the NHL would be interested in a 26-year-old center with a 100-point season under his belt.
One team that has already been linked to Pettersson is the Buffalo Sabres, who appear to be on the verge of extending their playoff drought.
With that being said, Canucks fans broadly do not seem excited about the notion of trading the Swedish superstar.
While Pettersson has had a down year, many fans are pointing the finger at Rick Tocchet for running a system with ineffective offensive structure.
Of course, Pettersson's feud with JT Miller probably isn't helping either.
Given Pettersson is younger and on a longer contract than Miller, one would think that the Canucks would want to keep him if they had to choose between the two players.
That being said, fans do not get to run the team. We'll just have to see what they do in the coming weeks.
