The Vancouver Canucks have landed a solid prospect in Vilmer Alriksson, and now he's landed on a contending team in the OHL after a blockbuster trade.

The 2023 NHL Draft was one full of talent, and is seen as one of the best in recent NHL memory, with many gems to be found throughout and many future NHLers to be uncovered.

One of those came in the fourth round when the Vancouver Canucks selected Swedish forward Vilmer Alriksson, who has since joined the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm to some good success.

In 2024/25, the towering forward has tallied 11 goals and 23 points in 26 games played for the Storm, but given the team's lack of success, they decided to move him in a huge trade to the Brampton Steelheads.

"The Storm would like to thank Vilmer for his hard work and dedication to the organization over the past two seasons and would like to wish him and his family the best as he finishes his OHL career and moves on to the Vancouver Canucks organization."

Currently, the Storm sit in last place in the Western Conference, with only one OHL team having a worse record than them in 2024/25, and in this deal they will land a second and two third round draft picks over the next three seasons.

In Brampton, Alriksson will join the likes of Porter Martone, Carson Rekhopf and Luke Misa on one of the most star studded rosters in the league, bringing his 6-foot-6 frame to a team that's ready to compete for the Memorial Cup.

Whether or not Alriksson ever makes the NHL in Vancouver is another story entirely, but he's produced well in 1.5 OHL seasons, and now he gets another opportunity to prove what he can do, and if he continues to improve, the Canucks may have found themselves a future NHLer.
