With training camp just over a week old, teams have been making cuts to their respective rosters and we're going to start seeing some of those players land on the waiver wire in order to be assigned to the American Hockey League.
In a social media post on Thursday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman announced that the Vancouver Canucks have placed defencemen Guillaume Brisebois and Jett Woo on waivers in order to send them to Abbotsford for their training camp, which begins next week.
Brisebois, 27, has had a rough go with injuries over the last couple of seasons including a concussion that he suffered in training camp in 2023, resulting in him missing almost the entire 2023-24 season. In eight games with Abbotsford last season, the Longueuil, Quebec native failed to register any points and had an even-rating.
Woo, 24, was a second-round pick of the Canucks back in 2018 and has spent the last four seasons in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford. In 62 games in the AHL, the Winnipeg native registered 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists), 93 penalty minutes and had an even-rating.
We'll have to wait and see on Friday at 2 pm ET if Guillaume Brisebois and Jett Woo are claimed by any other team around the National Hockey League or clear and are assigned to Abbotsford. As a result of finishing dead-last in the NHL standings last year, the San Jose Sharks have first dibs at placing a waiver claim between now and November.
