NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman was the first to report Sprong's departure from Vancouver:
Sprong heads back to Seattle where he played for two seasons from 2021-2023.
It was a separation that seemed to come out of nowhere, but Vancouver apparently had seen all they wanted to out of Sprong, who signed with the team earlier in the year.
After scoring against Calgary in the first game of the season, Sprong has only recorded two assists and hasn't necessarily made a statement big enough to warrant being kept on the Canucks roster.
The 9-year veteran has bounced around the league throughout his career, playing with Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Washington, Seattle, Detroit, and finally Vancouver. He has 86 goals and 76 assists throughout his career and is known as a decent offensive and defensive contributor.
He heads back to Seattle, where he had his best career year, scoring 21 goals and 46 points in 66 games. He will help head coach Andre Tourigny's depth on his bottom six and hopefully can regain his form back in his old stomping grounds.
Sprong isn't an expensive piece either, coming in at a shade under $1M at $975,000 and is going to be an unrestricted free agent at season's end, unless he decides to extend with the Kraken.
It's unknown exactly what the future considerations are going to be, and it's hard to tell who exactly won the trade right now, but it's a fresh start for both Sprong and the Canucks as they decided they weren't the right fit for each other, even though he had a connection to coach Rick Tocchet from their time in Pittsburgh.
