Tonight's preseason game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres brought hockey fans an amazingly rare moment - Sidney Crosby dropped the gloves.
As Penguins' star defenceman Kris Letang was retrieving the puck behind the net, he was crushed by Peyton Krebs and Tyson Jost in succession. Immediately after, Crosby hunts down Krebs, and drops the gloves to fight in defence of Letang.
The fight doesn't last long, and isn't heavy on punches, but Crosby delivered some hard cross checks to Krebs, and showed he was more than willing to drop the gloves. The referees quickly separated the players as they fell to the ice.
It's a rare sight to see if Crosby fighting, one of the greatest players of his generation, especially in a preseason game. It seems like Crosby is setting the tone for the season that Penguins players will have each other's backs, and will take exception to dirty plays. With that mentality being led by Crosby, the entire team will have to buy in.
