Marc-Andre Fleury explains why he was so upset with Jordan Binnington, explains Binnington broke hockey's code and man code
Last night the Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blue 8-5. The game was highlighted by a moment where Marc-Andre Fleury confronted Jordan Binnington late in the 2nd period. After Ryan Hartman scored a powerplay goal he made contact with Binnington, which set Binnington off.
After the contact Binnington jumped up and struck Hartman with his blocker, that was all Fleury needed to see and the veteran goalie charged down the ice. Luckily for Binnington the officials didn't let Fleury get hold of him.
Many wondered what it was that upset the usually cool, calm and collected Fleury so much. After the game Fleury explained what Binnington had done.
That one was pretty quick. One of the guys said (Binnington) hit them in the nuts, in the nutsack. Can I say nutsack? Then when I saw him throw another one at our guy, that was the time.
I'm not surprised. I've seen Jordan do a few things in his career, that's why I went. I made my decision pretty quick.
Binnington could face supplemental discipline for his actions, but it's great to see players beginning to hold the unhinged goaltender accountable. It's one thing for a goalie to defend himself, but it's another for a player to take an intentional shot below the belt on another player. It's only a matter of time before Binnington finally gets what's coming his way.
Update: The League has announced Binnington will have a hearing for the play.
