A game that could serve as a late round playoff preview, tonight's match between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers was expected to be highly competitive, and both teams didn't disappoint. Looking to lock into a playoff style of hockey, the game became extremely physical, featuring an instance of the Lightning running over Igor Shesterkin and a fight between both team's heavyweights.
Down two goals midway through the second period and despite trying to find their way back into the game, Alex Killorn of the Tampa Bay Lightning crashed the net hard, knocking over goaltender Igor Shesterkin with authority. After contact with their star goaltender, the Rangers swarmed Killorn and initiated a scrum.
The game's physicality continued to escalate with Tampa down early and pushing to regain their place in the game, causing Lightning veteran Patrick Maroon to spark his team with a fight. Maroon squared up with Rangers defender Ben Harpur for a heavyweight matchup.
In the final days of the season, expect highly competitive, highly physical games like this one between top ranked teams trying to build momentum into the playoffs.
