Tony DeAngelo facing suspension after spearing Corey Perry in the nuts before getting dog piled by the Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning snapped their winless streak and defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2. With just over two minutes left in the third period there was an altercation involving Philadelphia defenseman Tony DeAngelo. DeAngelo found himself at the bottom of the pile with Lightning players not too happy with him. Moments before this altercation, DeAngelo speared Tampa forward Corey Perry which was why everyone was so upset with him. Once DeAngelo speared Perry, shoving ensued with Michael Eyssimont followed by Patrick Maroon and Zach Bogosian going after DeAngelo. What did DeAngelo expect after his cheap shot? Check out the replay for the pile on.
The game was pretty much out of hand for the Flyers when this event took place. DeAngelo's bad decision making caused most of the Tampa team on the ice to go after him. DeAngelo was fortunate that the referees and linesman were close by to prevent him from getting pummeled. DeAngelo has a history and reputation for making dirty plays at times.
Spearing a guy is uncalled for and DeAngelo was almost taken out by multiple members of the Lightning. DeAngelo was given a spearing major and ejected from the game. Perhaps DeAngelo let his frustration get the best of him, but you can't spear guys and expect the opposition not to come after you.
