The National Hockey League has long said they want to get rid of dangerous hits in the game. As time goes on, one thing is proven, you cannot eliminate all of them no matter how hard you try, but one thing is certain, if you see a players numbers near the boards, you do your best not to follow throw with the hit.
Tonight, the Buffalo Sabres took on the Chicago Blackhawks and just over 5 minutes into the 3rd period, Chicago forward Philipp Kurashev threw a dangerous hit from behind on Sabres defended Erik Johnson; take a look.
Philipp Kurashev has been given a five-minute major boarding penalty for this hit on Erik Johnson. #Blackhawks
Kurashev was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct on the play and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a call from player safety in the morning.
When a defender is that far away from the boards, you try to avoid finishing your check at all costs.
The NHL says the want to get rid of dangerous hits exactly like this one? Now is their chance to prove it.
