A VHL game that took place in Russia today saw a player having to be stretchered off the ice and rushed to hospital for medical attention. Kirill Krutov, 24, was skating over the blueline when he passed the puck to a teammate. While his head was turned he was steamrolled by 28-year-old Pavel Medvedev, who delivered a bone-jarring hit right to the head. Krutov was probably already knocked out, but the fall also caused his head to bounce off the ice hard, making matters even worse. Medvedev was booted from the game.
Teammates and officials who took Krutov off the ice did so with some type of soft, portable stretcher, picking him up like he was in a blanket and placing him on the kind of stretcher that you would expect to see in this type of incident. Krutov appeared to be completely unconscious as he was taken out of the arena and put into an ambulance.

The game being played was in the VHL, Russia's second-tier league behind the KHL. Medvedev's AKM beat Krutov's Neftyanik Almetievsk to win the VHL's Petrov Cup.
