With the 2022 NHL Regular Season over and the Stanley Cup playoffs on the horizon, fans are beginning to get excited. Especially so if your team is a Stanley Cup Contender, for other teams though there remains planning for next season and even Calder Cup runs for some teams.

The National Hockey League regular season is all but over, with only one meaningless make up game, between the Winnipeg Jets and the Seattle Kraken, set for Sunday remaining on the schedule. But on Saturday a pair ofteams placed players on waivers for some roster house keeping.

First, the Ottawa Senators placed veteran defenseman Michael Del Zotto on waivers. Del Zotto had an up and down season with the organization, he split his time between the NHL and the American Hockey League. Del Zotto played in 26 games for the Senators and recorded 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points and also played in 26 games for the Belleville Senators of the AHL where he had 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points. Presumably this move was made with the intent of sending him back down to Belleville to play with the AHLSenators.

The other two players being waived find themselves in a scenario very similar to the one Del Zotto is currently in. The Vancouver Canucks announced that forwards Nicolas Petan and Sheldon Dries would both be placed on waivers, this time with the intent presumably being to send them to the Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver's AHLaffiliate team.

Dries played sparingly for the Canucks this season appearing in just 11 games and recording 2 goals and 1 assist over that stretch. The majority of his time was instead spent in the AHL where he had 25 goals and 27 assists for 62 points in 54 games played.

Petan is in a similar boat with the majority of his time this season having been spent in the AHL where he had 12 goals and 32 assists for 44 points in 37 games. At the NHL level he appeared in only 18 games and had no goals and 2 assists.
