Today at 2 pm, 5 players were placed on the NHL's waiver wire. On that list of 5 players, 2 of those players have been placed on unconditional waivers. Those two players will have their contracts terminated and will likely move to Europe to continue their hockey careers.

The following players were placed on waivers:

Boston Bruins - Craig Smith
Detroit Red Wings - Austin Czarnik
Edmonton Oilers - Jason Demers

Of the players placed on regular waivers, Craig Smith is the most surprising. Smith is making $3,100,000 per season, but he is struggling. Smith has 1 goal and 4 points in 17 games this season.

The Colorado Avalanche have placed 22-year-old Danila Zhuravlyov on unconstitutional waivers. Zhuravlyov has spent this entire season with the Colorado Avalanche of the AHL. Zhuravlyov's agent issued the following statement.

Gold Star did not represent Zhuravlyov when signing his contract with Colorado, which unfortunately did not fully address the player's interests. In particular, the contract lacked a clause about the player's possible departure for Russia, which previously prevented the player from returning to the KHL.

The New York Islanders also placed Nikita Soshnikov on unconditional waivers. Soshnikov was recently in the news for having his apartment robbed while he was in North America.
