Jason Demers signs NHL contract with Western Conference team, gets placed on waivers to be assigned to the AHL
Jason Demers has played 699 careers games, his last being May 7th, 2021. The veteran defender spent last year in the KHL, but the 34-year-old hasn't given up on his Stanley Cup dreams yet. Today it was made official by the Edmonton Oilers that they'd signed Demers to a 1-year deal.
The 1-year deal is a two-way deal, which will pay him $750,000 at the NHL level. The Oilers signed the 34-year-old to a professional tryout to begin the season but released him on Oct. 10 at the conclusion of the pre-season.
Demers then signed a tryout with the Bakersfield Condors. Demers has played 23 games this season, recording 9 assists and 36 shots on goal.
The Oilers have placed Demers on waivers so he can officially be assigned full time to the Condors.
