According to The Athletic, Connor McDavid is no longer the best player in the world

If you asked almost every hockey fan, "who is the best NHL player in the world?" You would usually only get one answer: Connor McDavid.

However, if you ask hockey analysts, 99% would say Edmonton Oilers' captain Connor Mcdavid. But according to The Athletic and their analytics team, Connor McDavid is no longer the top guy in the NHL and his replacement could likely surprise most of you.

Believe it or not The Athletic shows with some stats and their player charts, that the new best player in the NHL is Toronto Maple Leafs' star, Auston Matthews.

According to Luszczyszyn, these cards have allowed fans to dig into all of the data and stats, and on Tuesday it started trending that Matthews is the new King of the NHL. I don't see many people taking Matthews over McDavid though granted both are some of the best players of this generation. I believe Connor McDavid still reigns as the king of the NHL but Matthews is no slouch.
