Earlier today, the Arizona Coyotes and forward Jack McBain avoided arbitration just hours before the hearing, and the number they agreed on is so ridiculous it's funny.
It was reported McBain signed a 2-year 1.6 million dollar deal to avoid the hearing, but as Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet points out, it's not quite 1.6 million after all; take a look.
I'm told the actual number is $1,599,999M per year
McBain and the Coyotes agreed on a two year deal just a dollar off the 1.6 million dollar mark, which is both absurd and hilarious at the same time.
McBain, 23, had a pretty decent season for the Coyotes last year, putting up 26 points while playing in all 82 games, Including 12 goals and 14 assists while being used primarily in a bottom 6 role.
I'm shocked we don't see more deals like this; we all know it's essentially 1.6 million dollars while being a dollar off. This is a trick that works in grocery stores to make you feel like you're spending less money when in fact, it's the same amount; why wouldn't it work in hockey? In any case, I'm sure both parties are happy with the deal
