Asking price for Jakob Chychrun reportedly drops significantly, new favourite emerges
The Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes appear to be moving closer to a resolution and at a significant pace.
On Saturday nights weekly 32 Thoughts segment of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet's Jeff Marek discussed the current market for Chychrun. Marek notes the asking price on Arizona's now sits at "at least the equivalent to two 1st round draft picks." This ask has dropped significantly from the original asking price of two 1st round picks, a top prospect and an NHL ready player.
Marek mentioned that the Los Angeles Kings have emerged as a possible favorite to land the 24-year-old defenceman. The Kings have a deep prospect pool and first rounds pick available to move. To pull the trigger on this deal, its a win-now move for a team looking to take the next step.
Chychrun is currently with the Coyotes but is still a couple weeks away from making his 2022-23 debut as he recovers from off-season wrist surgery.The Sens and Coyotes continue to talk, but things appear to be at a standstill with Ottawa unwilling to trade some of their top prospects.
Drafted 16th overall by the Coyotes in 2016, Chychrun has played six seasons for the club. He put up seven goals and 21 points through 47 games last season, and has 142 career points through 337 total NHL games up to this point.
