With the dust cleared on his blockbuster trade to the Carolina Hurricanes, Mikko Rantanen opens up with a heartfelt message to Colorado Avalanche fans
With his final contract offer from the Colorado Avalanche leaked by Elliotte Friedman, Mikko Rantanen has delivered a very heartfelt message to fans of the team.
Mikko Rantanen, who broke his silence and spoke for the first time since being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, has come out with another statement for the Avalanche faithful.
Rantanen said the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2022 will always hold a special place in his heart.
"To my Colorado Avalanche teammates, the incredible fans in Denver and the entire organization, words cannot fully express how much these past 10 years have meant to me.
From the moment I was drafted as a young player from my native Finland, this city embraced me and helped shape me both as an athlete and as a person.
Winning the Stanley Cup here was a dream come true, and sharing that moment with all of you is something I will cherish forever."
Former Avs teammate Nathan MacKinnon made his feelings on the trade involving his All-Star colleague very clear, saying he never saw it coming, and the whole thing "sucks."
While the Carolina Hurricanes picked up one of the best forwards in the NHL in the deal, they have yet to sign Rantanen to an extension.
The 28-year-old is on the final year of a six-year contract he signed with Colorado back in 2019 which carried a cap hit of $9.25 million.
