Former 2nd overall pick Tyler Seguin has battled some significant injuries that took a toll on his body and mind. But how much of a toll did they take? The Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin admitted he thought about retiring back in 2021.

Seguin, now 30, is in entering his tenth season with the Stars. Seguin has had issues with his hip and had surgery that limited him to just three games in the 2020-2021 season. Seguin shares with The Score a conversation he had with a friend in 2021.

I looked over at my friend and said, 'I don't know if I'll ever be able to play anymore. My career might be over. This might be it.' I just didn't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Whenever there are dark times, whenever I'm down, I think about that, about being in Muskoka, about where I've come from. That keeps you going.

It might come as a surprise to hear these comments from Seguin, however hip injuries can be difficult to overcome. Seguin does admit he does feel the best he's felt in years coming into this season. That has to be a relief for Dallas and their fans. Seguin still is a good centreman and a key piece up front for the Stars. In five games this year Seguin has five points. The Dallas Stars hope to be a cup contender coming out of the Western Conference. To have a legitimate run the Stars need Seguin healthy and playing well. Let's hope Seguin can play for at least a few more years. Seguin has four more years left on his contract after this season that pays him $9.85 million dollars per year.
