The Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Buffalo Sabres last night and it appears that Auston Matthews may have crossed the line against the Sabres for a second time. Now the question becomes, will he have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety for it?
During the second period of tonight's game, Matthews was skating across centre ice and appears to get his elbow out on Sabres' forward Casey Mittelstadt. Here's the play:
This is questionable at best. Matthews was making a play for the puck, doesn't even look like he knows Mittelstadt is there. None the less, he earned a penalty for an illegal check to the head.
Last season Matthews picked up his first Suspension of his career after cross checking Rasmus Dahlin in the face. There is just something about the Buffalo Sabres that brings out the dark side of the usually timid Matthews.
Whatever the case is, if Matthews does catch a hearing from the Department of Player Safety, that would be his second suspension is as many years.
