On Sunday night's game between the Minnesota Wild and the Colorado Avalanche, star players Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Dumba of the Wild engaged in a heated fight.

Star players involved in fights is always a polarizing play, with risk of injury also being a display of passion. MacKinnon was sticking up for teammate Mikko Rantanen, but now also will miss significant time due to injury.

It's believed that MacKinnon suffered a hand fracture during the fight. If that is the case, MacKinnon will miss around 6-8 weeks, and potentially playoff games. Speaking on this loss for the Avalanche, Head Coach Bednar described his concern level as «high».

Nazem Kadri, who's in the midst of a career best season, will be expected to step up in MacKinnon's absence to push the Avalanche towards the playoffs, and potentially win some important playoff games. Having already lost Gabriel Landeskog, the Avalanche are already in a vulnerable position. The loss of MacKinnon to the team could be devastating if it results in a first round loss.
