Breaking News - Canadian team expected to sign Jake Virtanen after not guilty verdict
Jake Virtanen had his NHL career derailed after allegations of sexual assault became public. The Vancouver Canucks immediately suspended the forward and bought out his contract the following summer. Last season Virtanen left the NHL and played in the KHL as no team would afford him the opportunity to play.
But earlier this summer a jury or Virtanen's peers rendered a verdict of not guilty in his case. This not guilty verdict immediately set a chain of events in motion that could see Virtanen return to the NHL.
Jurors in the Virtanen case found the alleged victim not very credible and chose to find against her. As the season nears Virtanen made it very clear he was as looking to make a return and according to Elliotte Friedman it appears he has.
Jake Virtanen soon to be an Oiler according to Elliotte Friedman on 32 thoughts
Giving players has worked well for the Edmonton Oilers in recent history. The Oilers gave second chances to both Zach Kassian and Evander Kane, both moves benefiting the team.
Virtanen is expected to receive a professional tryout with the Oilers. It is yet to be seen if he will make the team or not, but he definitely deserves another chance.
