Breaking News - Paul Maurice receives a massive fine from the NHL
Tuesday night the Florida Panthers faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a very exciting game. The Maple Leafs were able to eek out a 5-4 overtime victory on a William Nylander game winning goal. But after the game it wasn't the play on the ice that Paul Maurice was focused on, it was the officiating.
Tuesday night's game saw 16 penalties called and 10 powerplays handed out, of the 10 powerplays, 7 of those powerplays belonged to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Maurice had a lot to say about the officials post game.
Well, it'll always be penalties that you take in the game you earn, and there's a whole bunch of (penalties) you're not gonna like it all. I thought we had the inordinate share of those.
I don't know what the hell those guys were doing tonight. But it wasn't Florida Pantherfriendly.
Maurice didn't stop there, he went as far as to blame one of the referees for having a vendetta against him.
I just explained to 'em, it had nothing to do with my players; it had to do with me and a relationship that I have with one of the referees. That's what that was all about. So, just go out, keep your mouth shut, and play the game.
Today the NHL made the decision to punish Maurice for those comments fining him $25,000.
Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice has been fined $25,000 for comments about officiating during a media availability following NHL Game No. 706 in Toronto on Tuesday, Jan. 17, the National Hockey League announced today. The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation.
