While many teams were focused on this year's free agent frenzy, the Carolina Hurricanes were able to get an amazing defenseman via trade. Despite some regression, Brent Burns is still one hell of an offensive D-man and will definitely help the Hurricanes get one step closer to the Cup Finals.
According to Elliotte Friedman, Brent Burns didn't want to go initially to Carolina.
"Burns wanted to go to Dallas but okayed a deal to Carolina."
The Nashville Predators as well as the Florida Panthers were in on Burns as well. But when it came down to the final decision, Burns opted for Carolina. Burns will be joining a young core team that has all the skill and talent needed to make another push this year for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With just over 4 Million in cap space left, we could see the Hurricanes adding more, but they do still have to find a common ground with Martin Necas.
