Sidney Crosby reportedly went to management and demanded something happen
Sidney Crosby has a reputation around the NHL of being a very stand up guy. He's never really stuck his nose in anything and usually leaves management to their own devices. Over the years he's been involved in very little from a negotiations perspective.
That was until this off season. It's been reported that apparently Crosby took a hard stance with Management on both Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin's contracts. This is a shift from Crosby's usual actions, but one that doesn't surprise many. The 3 players have been great friends after spending their entire careers together.
At one point it was reported that Malkin felt the Penguins, "didn't think he was very good", and he was ready to test free agency. That's when Crosby stepped in and not only did he step in to help Malkin but he stepped into help the Penguins.
Without Crosby in this situation it's very likely that Malkin would have tested the free agent market and would already be headed elsewhere. This development makes you wonder what sort of Executive Crosby could make after his career ends.
