It was another disappointing year in San Jose, a team that once seemed like perennial contenders has fallen on tough times. This struggles have worn on a couple of the senior players. With rumours Erik Karlsson is unhappy, there are now rumours another veteran Shark might be having thoughts about life outside of San Jose.
This time it is 37-year-old defenseman, Brett Burns. Burns feels like the clock is ticking on his career. With the Sharks missing the playoffs 3 years in a row, Burns understands his chances at a Cup might be running out.
Burns had a good season this year scoring 10 goals and 54 assists in 82 games.
Hockey insider, Jeff Marek believes Burns could possibly ask the Sharks to he moved to a contender though he admits he loves playing in Sunny California. With three seasons left on his current contract with a cap hit of eight million dollars annually.
Not all NHL teams will be able to afford his deal without salary retention. Burns does have trade protection clauses in his contract, which will mean that he holds the cards when it comes to his future.
