The finalists for the 2022 Calder Memorial Trophy have been announced. Last year's winner was Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov who topped off his rookie year in the league with a playoff run, 27 goals, 24 assists for 51 points, and a +10 on ice.

This year has had some heavy hitters on both sides of the ice, with Moritz Seider, the Detroit Red Wings rookie who made the opening night roster in 2021 and never let the foot off the gas, as he put up 7 goals and 43 assists for points in 82 games. Before being brought from the SHL, the defenseman whose picked sixth in the 1st in 2019, put up seven goals and 21 assists.

Trevor Zegras unsurprisingly has been nominated, second in rookie scoring this year, with 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points, an honorary mention for me for pissing off John Tortorella by making Svechnikov's "Michigan" goal a regular thing in the NHL now. He also led the NHL with six shoot-out goals.

Last we have Toronto's, Michael Bunting, who led all rookies with 63 points (23 goals, 40 assists). By luck, he qualified as a rookie turning 26 on September 26, 2021. Bunting spent some time playing in Arizona but played under the limit of games played to qualify as a rookie in 2020-2021.

Bunting's presence on the ice has helped catapult the Maple Leaf's offense this year, with 315 goals in total, second in the NHL.
