On Thursday Morning, GM Kent Hughes met with the Media to discuss the Ben Chiarot trade and other things surrounding the Canadiens ahead of the deadline five days away. A question that did come up was the availability of Jeff Petry on the trade market.

If it's a deal that makes sense for us, and if it makes sense for Jeff and Jeff knows that. I've spoken to him about it. - Kent Hughes

The 34-year old defenseman is having a down year for Montreal with only 4 goals and 16 points in 53 games. His play has dramatically improved since the firing of Dominique Ducharme and arrival of his replacement, Martin St. Louis. Petry is signed through 2024-2025 at a cap hit of $6,250,000. He has a Modified No-Trade Clause, No-Move Clause where he submits a 15 team no trade list.

It has certainly been a frosty relationship between the fan base and Petry at times during his tenure. There are reports of Petry's wife being a victim of discrimination while running simple errands because she doesn't speak French.

It will be interesting to see if a trade can materialize for the Canadiens #1 Defenseman before the Deadline.
