Charges laid after 23-year-old hockey player is murdered, video footage of altercation released
Over the weekend it was announced that 23-year-old Roman Didur had been murdered outside of a cafe in Moscow. It is now being revealed that an arrest has been made of a 37-year-old male in connection with the stabbing. The accused is facing murder charges in response to the altercation. The accused has also been denied bail and will remain in custody until his trial date, which is set for June 24th.
Details have also been released of what led to the incident. According to Sport24.ru, Roman Didur and the accussed got into an argument as they entered the cafe. Didur, was celebrating his birthday with friends when the incident occured. Didur and the accused are reported to have exchanged words before exiting the cafe, where Didur was stabbed.
Medical attention was on route, but were unable to arrive before Didur bled out. Didur played in the MSHL Program until 2018, where he played in 165 games at both youth and student levels. Didur, was still an active member of the local hockey community at the time of his death.
Security footage has also been released. In the footage you can clearly see a man brandishing a knife as the fight broke out. The stabbing is said to have occurred off camera, but it does appear there were several people involved in the altercation.
