Coach punishes team by forcing them to spend the entire night in the locker room after losing to a women's team
There is a very strange story making the rounds this morning. This story involves an under 18 youth hockey team out of Belarus. According to Sport-express.ru the U18 Belarus team faced off against the Russian Women's National team. The boys team came up empty, losing the game 1-0 to the women's team.
To say the coach was unhappy would be an understatement, instead of simply ripping his team he instead forced his team to spend the night in the dressing room. The incident occurred during a tournament in Belarus involving 3 junior teams (Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan) and the Russian women's national team. The tournament was played out as a mini tournament for the 4 teams.
Sports Express shared the following information:
As punishment for the defeat, the head coach of Belarus U18 Dmitry Shulga left his players to spend the night in the dressing room of the Barys Arena.
The tournament was ultimately won by the Russian U16 team, but this is a definite sign that hockey is treated much differently in other countries, because behavior like this would not be tolerated in North America. It will be interesting to see if this technique works or backfires on the coach.
