Colorado defensemen Devon Toews wants to re-sign with the Avalanche for another long term
It's a never-ending joke in the world today that once you turn 30 years old, your life starts to go downhill. You can't eat certain foods anymore because of heartburn. You can't hang out with your friends and easily drink 15 beers anymore. And staying up past midnight? Forget it. However, there's one almost 30-year-old who's ready for whatever life can throw at him, and that dude is Devon Toews.
Toews was a topic on the 32 Thoughts Podcast recently, where Elliotte Friedman recounted:
Someone said to methey really believe that the number here that is the problem in this negotiation is 30, and that is what (Devon) Toews will turn in Februarythey think the Avalanche, who are a really smart organization, don't want to go long-term.
The New York Islanders traded Toews to the Colorado Avalanche back in 2020. He was signed by the Avs in a $16.4 million deal for four years. Since then, Toews has proved himself as an incredible defensemen playing alongside Colorado superstar Cale Makargarnering two seasons with 40+ assists and 50+ points. Toews also helped Colorado bring home the Stanley Cup in 2022.
Toews is going into the last season of his deal with the Avalanche, and has even mentioned in past interviews that he wouldn't mind taking a pay cut as long as he stayed with them. It'll be exciting to see how this situation pans out and if Colorado decides to keep Toews or not once his contract is up. If not, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in 2024. Despite all of that, if his age does have anything to do with it, there are plenty of current NHL players in their LATE 30s who are still kicking ass out there on the ice. Hello, Marchand, Pavelski, Ovechkin, Crosby
