Corey Perry took the approach this past off-season of «If you can't beat em, join em» when he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Perry lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final two years in a row. In 2020 with the Dallas Stars, and then in 2021 with the Montreal Canadiens. But Perry did not change his style of play when joining the Lightning as he is still giving out cheap shots.
At the end of the second period, Corey Perry and J.T. Compher got into a wrestling match behind the play. But after the referees broke it up and Perry was getting up, he tried to inflict some extra pain on Compher.
Corey Perry made sure to dig in his knee, then all of his weight onto Compher's ankle as he was getting up. Compher was fine but Perry was definitely trying to hurt him.
This play is similar to an incident where Jared Spurgeon cross checked another players ankle and will likely result in a similar fine.
