This season has been a rollercoaster for the Boston Bruins thus far, and on Saturday, they lost 6-5 in a shootout thriller to the Atlantic Division rival Ottawa Senators.
It wasn't the loss that was the most shocking however, but a move from Head Coach Joe Sacco has drawn the most intrigue, as he admitted he benched Brad Marchand for overtime and the shootout, with no injury reasoning behind it.
To the shock of no one, fans are not happy at all with the way a franchise legend and the current captain of the team, with fans taking to social media to voice their displeasure with the way Marchand has been treated.
Sacco has made some solid decisions since taking over as the replacement for the fired Jim Montgomery, but this one may ultimately backfire on him, as fans and most likely his teammates won't take too kindly to the treatment of Marchand.
In the game, Marchand recorded no points and was a -1 on the night, and while those numbers aren't overly flattering, it's definitely not the way a captain should be treated after an average game.
With his pending free agency, there have been some suggestions that No. 63 could be traded at some point this season, but thus far, it's been business as usual in Boston, with Marchand and the entire team making their goals of a Stanley Cup clear.
Ultimately, whether or not he's traded, this move won't do the organization any favours in the eyes of their captain, and while this may all blow over with a good game next time out, this may be the move that forces big changes in the Bruins organization.
