The rise of embellishment calls has been pretty evident across the National Hockey League in recent years and now we're finally seeing them cracking down on players who have seemingly made a little extra acting a habit.

According to Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas morning News, Dallas tars forward Mason Marchment has been fined for this play on December 8th against the Ottawa Senators.

Marchment was warned on November 26th as a result of similar antics in a game against the Colorado Avalanche.

I think there's a combination of things to look at here: one is, the NHL in recent years have made it okay for players to sell calls a little bit and nog penalized them for it. The other is, now that they're cracking down on obvious dives, is a $2,000 fine going to be enough of a deterrent. My bet, would be no, a $2,000 fine doesn't do much.

As is customary of me, all I ask of the NHL is to remain consistent on their punishments, they have now set a precedent, stick to it. The worst part of this is there was a 2-minute minor assessed on the play

Either way, this is an embarrassing play and fine for Marchment as a whole, albeit, one that has been enabled by the NHL
